Thursday is World MDG Blogging day, where blog authors are encouraged to remind people of the Millennium Development Goals and their importance. If you are unfamiliar with the Millennium Development Goals, you can start reading here.
The goals in a short form are:
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger .
2. Achieve universal primary education.
3. Promote gender equality and empower women.
4. Reduce child mortality.
5. Improve maternal health.
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.
7. Ensure environmental sustainability
8. Create a global partnership for development with targets for aid, trade and debt relief.
The MDGs are not "Pie in the Sky" goals, nor are they done through a central agency, making it possible for people across the political spectrum to work to achieve the goals through their favorite charities. If you want to give towards the MDGs and don't know where to give, the Episcopal Relief and Development MDG Inspiration Fund is a worthy charity with very low overhead and high ratings from organizations that rate non-profits.
