I was in the outpost of the Evil Plane of Xoriat (also known as Wal-Mart) the other day, perusing the PC gaming aisle for a cheap fix, when I came across the title, "The Temple of Elemental Evil." This immediately caught my eye, because I remember the actual module by Gary Gygax back in AD&D days. It was $10, so I picked it up. (You can get it on Amazon here.)
It's a 2004 game, and its graphics are a little primitive by today's standards. The role-playing possibilities are also limited. However, it uses the 3.5 D&D rules completely, with character generation as well as turn-based combat and all the options that entails.
I am returning to D&D after a 15 or so year hiatus, so the combat system has been something hard to fathom by just reading the books. This computer game is an EXCELLENT trainer for how 3.5 D&D combat works. I think I've got it down, after consulting the books and trying some options. Well worth the $10!
